The Cheltenham Branch of The NHS Retirement Fellowship,
30 year Party. - October 2008
Tuesday October 7th 2008 arrived, together with strong winds and rain. What a day to be celebrating our 30 years as a branch. Nevertheless the committee arrived early to get the hall organised for the party. Once in the hall, all thoughts of the weather disappeared and a mixture of excitement and panic followed. Tables and chairs were arranged. Blue and silver balloons were positioned, and our special cake was placed on its stand. Our Cheltenham Branch Fellowship display was erected and the food tables were covered with a delicious assortment of savoury and sweet dishes.
2.15pm saw our members and guests arrive. We were honoured to welcome Dame Janet Trotter, Chairman of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sarah Truelove, Director of Finance for Gloucestershire PCT and Deputy Chief Executive, and June Hewett – NHS Retirement Fellowship Regional Representative. Two Friends from Cirencester and Christine Harwood, Chairman of the Gloucester Branch, were also made welcome.
and Dame Janet Trotter
Following a welcoming speech from our Chairman Rosemary Dent, everybody enjoyed a light hearted and very pleasant afternoon reminiscing and making new friends. Our founder member, Joy Marsh was invited to cut the cake, and Dame Janet Trotter said a few words before proposing the toast.
A very enjoyable afternoon eventually came to an end, but warm memories and friendships had been made. Hopefully the companionship and closeness of the Fellowship will continue to flourish for another 30 years, with new members being welcomed.
